UNINSURED: Today's Dilemma

The fastest growing population of the medically uninsured are employed or have recently lost their insurance along with their job.  And for those employed, as premium costs rise, many employers are not providing coverage.  Many workers who have coverage can not afford the premiums for their families.  The ripple effect of being without access to affordable care permeates every aspect of life—added stress, lack of preventative care and limited chronic disease management.  This can devastate the family  budget and quality of life.  Many Nevadans are medically homeless and seek acute care when illness or injury strikes.  This is no longer a dilemma for "poor people" it is affecting every level family with varying income levels, every race and ethnicity, every age and gender.

HOW WE HELP . . .

Great Basin HealthNet is not the solution to the medical insurance crisis.  Our members must pay out-of-pocket for medical services.  However, the fees from  our network of participating providers have been negotiated for a much lower cost to our uninsured clients.

First things first.  All our clients first choose a primary care home.  Referrals to our network of specialists, hospitals, diagnostics and other ancillary services must come from their primary care physician.

Having an affordable primary care home provides the opportunity for preventative care and chronic disease management. When extended care is needed, our network of providers offer reduced fees to our members.  Great Basin HealthNet assists the providers in managing their margin of generosity.

Circle of Care  REGISTRATION  |  REFERRALS | CONTINUITY

The dedicated staff of the Great Basin HealthNet Program does not just sit by and wait for the phone to ring, although ring it does!  As word has spread throughout the uninsured community, we welcome the constant calls.  Our team of specialists reach out into the community.  The presence of these experts at partnering schools and outreach sites assists many potential clients to obtain access to needed health care and navigate the social systems available to them.  The interview process begins with family income questions that may lead to a referral to Nevada Check-Up or Medicaid.  If not qualified for either of these public insurance programs, the families register into the Great Basin HealthNet Program.

For those enrolled in Great Basin HealthNet, new clients are required to first choose a primary care home and are immediately referred to participating providers for such services as dental, eye care and mammograms.  Once the members have a primary care home, our team of Continuity of Care Coordinators manage the complex process of specialty referrals.  These services include making appointments with needed specialists, ancillary services, outpatient clinics, hospitals and pharmaceuticals.  Roadblocks are identified and navigated through to ensure the member has the health care access they deserve.  The client participates in the cost of their care.  It is not free.  Our providers have generously awarded our clients with greatly reduced fees that are paid at the time of service.
